HUDSON RIVER VALLEY HERITAGE provides online access to historical materials from New York State's Hudson River Valley. HRVH allows access to digital collections contributed by colleges, libraries, archives, historical societies, museums and cultural organizations from the following counties in New York State: Columbia, Greene, Dutchess, Ulster, Sullivan, Rockland, Orange, Putnam, and Westchester.
Organizations continue to contribute collections that contain a variety of photographs, maps, letters, postcards, manuscripts, scrapbooks, programs from events, memorabilia and ephemera, and audio and video clips. Many of these collections include unique historical resources not previously available in digital format.
ANCESTRY LIBRARY by ProQuest is a user-friendly tool for all sorts of genealogical searches. If you are looking for information about local-area families, click on the site and try it. SORRY! THIS LINK CANNOT BE ACCESSED REMOTELY. IT IS FOR IN-LIBRARY USE ONLY.
REGIONAL HISTORY LINK TO HUDSON VALLEY HERITAGE INSTITUTE contains a collection of heritage sites, documents, organizations, lesson plans, and related links to guide you through the Hudson River Valley. Its content and portals are designed to draw people--electronically and physically--from around the world to the Hudson River Valley to experience its scenic, cultural, economic, and historical resources. This is the story of a community and some of the people who made their homes in it through the years. It is the history of two hamlets, Mahopac and Mahopac Falls. These hamlets are part of the Town of Carmel in Putnam County in the State of New York. Each has its own post office and its own fire department, but both are part of the same school district, the Mahopac Schools. So we will tell their stories together.
Many members of our community have helped with this book. Some have provided information; others have kindly lent photographs which were used as a reference for drawings. Sincere thanks are given to: Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Agor, Mrs. Carl H. Andre, Mr. Arthur Brady, Mrs. Harold Barrett, Mrs. Charles Carpenter, Mr. Joseph Carr, Mr. Halsey J. Decatur, Mrs. David Edes, Mr. & Mrs. Dennis Gansinger, Mr. Jack Gemmill, Mr. Arthur Jacobson, Miss Dorothy Jewell, Mr. & Mrs. Charles King, Rev. Earl S. McCary, Mr. William H. Spain, and to all those who offered their help in any way.
