Q: What have the Friends done for the library?
A: Through the proceeds of the Book Barn, membership dues, and fund-raising activities, the Friends this past year have contributed more than $16,000.00 for library programs and services. We have been able to sponsor a series of multi-cultural programs including Latin dancing, Brazilian music, and Japanese calligraphy. We have also funded the acquisition of pod-casting software, sound equipment for the Teen Players, Discovery Kits for the Children’s Room, and the new canopy at the front of the library. Additionally, we have been able to assist the library to purchase books, DVDs, audio books, and CDs. These all enhance the Library’s service to the community.
The Friends manage the Book Barn which offers gently used books and videos at very reasonable prices. The Book Barn is located in the library basement and may be accessed either by elevator or by stairs. Donations of used books and videos may be left in the Book Barn bin currently located to the right of the main entrance of the library, beyond the exterior book return drop. The Book Barn is open Tuesdays from 1:00- 8:00 PM, Thursdays from 2:00 – 7:00 PM, Fridays from 1:00 - 4:30 PM, and the third Saturday of the month from 1:00 – 4:00 PM. A selection of books and videos from the Book Barn is available for sale in the lobby during Library hours.

Q: What is the latest project?
A: The BAMM Project (Books, Art, Music in Mahopac) is a year-long series of events and workshops. Many of the musicians included in the BAMM concert series are local residents who perform nationally or internationally but are less familiar to Putnam audiences. This series highlights the talents of these professional artists and will feature contemporary, traditional and original music. Literary and art workshops will complement several of the concerts.
Support for BAMM has been provided by the Mahopac National Bank and the Friends of Mahopac Public Library. Additional funding has been provided with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Program. In Putnam County the Decentralization Program is managed by the Putnam Arts Council.
