The library's collection consists of more than 80,000 books and periodicals, audio and video tapes, DVDs, and large-print books. Mahopac Public is the only library in the county with The New York Times and The Journal News on microfilm. Reader/printers are available for microfilm and microfiche periodical reference; more than 1,400 magazine titles are available through print and online subscriptions. In addition, a small law collection and current broad-based business reference materials are available to the public.
Currently the library has more than a dozen public multimedia computer workstations. Several of these are programmed with a variety of age-appropriate educational software designed for children from preschool age through young adult. The remaining workstations provide a complete office suite of programs and can be used to gain reference, career, health, and business information in addition to Internet access. There are dedicated quick Internet access and stand-alone computers for specific patron needs, as well.
The Land Use Center is a unique feature of MPL, with a goal of providing access to information on easements, environmental assessments, environmental impact statements, local lake management, land trusts, management plans, mediation, open space preservation, planning, regional studies, smart growth, storm-water runoff, sprawl, watershed issues, wetlands management, wildlife management, and zoning. The Land Use Center is the first of its kind in a public library in the Hudson Valley, and is believed to be the first in the United States.
Mahopac Public Library continues to be the County Reference Center, a position it has held for the past twenty years.
- The Parenting Resource Center contains child-development materials for information on developmental disabilities.
- Prospective college students and job seekers are encouraged to use the Job & Education Information Center.
